As if mobile phones weren’t disposable enough, I came across a small article in the Metro this morning. The kings of disposability Bic have extended their range from ballpoint pens and razors to now include mobile phones. The product’s appearance is completely “on brand” with the rest of their product range, even down to the packaging (how many other phones are sold in vac-formed blister packs?), and comes fully charged with £10 credit ready to use on Orange.
I can’t say I’m surprised. With consumers regularly spending £100s on mobile phones over the course of 12-18 months just to then sling them in their man drawer and upgrade to another model, it was only going to be a matter of time before someone cut that process right down and offered a proper budget phone designed for even shorter term use.
It is intially launching in France for about 50Euros so I’m told, and I don’t think it will be too long before we see it here with a Sterling price tag.
