The Colour For 2014

As 2014 looms on the horizon it is that time of the year where we eagerly await just how colourful next year is going to be.

Leaving behind 2013’s Emerald we can now welcome in the new year with Pantone 18-3224, or Radiant Orchid to you and me.

a captivating, magical, enigmatic purple

Radiant Orchid

The announcement wasn’t even close to the blues and greys that many people had predicted (including my brother), but with the colour already creeping into Spring fashion shows, the red carpet and interior design practices who can argue.

Radiant Orchid blooms with confidence and magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination. It is an expressive, creative and embracing purple—one that draws you in with its beguiling charm

The colour is “a captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones” and able to blend with both warm and cool colours.  It will even have a go at complimenting neutral shades so it won’t surprise me to see this as one of the more dominant and successful choices that Pantone have selected, particularly throughout the design and fashion sectors.

I really didn’t get into the emerald as much as I thought I would. Looking forward to seeing what orchid I can try to incorporate coming up!

I’ve read some other articles about Pantone’s Colour of the Year, and it’s very interesting how much it affects the fashion and beauty industry.

yes, definitely. I work in the design industry so it is good to see how Pantone’s choices work out.

I believe they consider trends in colour as much as anything when they consider their colour of the year which, inevitably, includes a large portion of the fashion market.
